چکیده

Crit Care Med 2016 • Volume 44 • Number 12 (Suppl.) more AHP participating in social media during 2016 CCC compared to 2015 (34% vs 14% of the top 50 accounts; p=0.047). The number of followers of AHP accounts were significantly fewer than the number of followers of the physician accounts (800 ± 626 followers vs 1,608 ± 2,282 followers; p=0.02), but there was no significant difference in number of tweets (7,403 ± 8,993 vs 16,764 ± 36,230 tweets; p=0.1) or duration of time on Twitter (4.8 ± 2.3 vs 5.1 ± 2.1 yrs; p=0.6). Conclusions: Social media is another way to engage all heath care professionals in academic conversations that occur during CCC. More effort should be made to increase inclusion in this important venue for multidisciplinary conversation.

Impact of new treatments for neonatal pulmonary hypertension on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation use and outcome.

OBJECTIVE To determine the impact of new treatment modalities, including high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) and inhaled nitric oxide (INO), on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) use and outcome of neonatal patients with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn. STUDY DESIGN We reviewed the medical records of neonatal patients meeting established ECMO criteria from 1...

The Influence of an Early Application of High- Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation on the Outcome in Paediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of timing in the use of high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) on the survival of children with severe acute hypoxemic respiratory failure and ARDS who were initially on conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV). Twenty-six consecutive patients, 17 males and 9 females, fell into two groups: the early intervention group (17 patients) ...

Ecmo in a diabetic patient with cerebellar infarction and ARDS- A case report

Background: Extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been considered as a crucial modality for the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Since ECMO is considered to be an invasive modality and may be associated with some complications, there are strict indications for its use. Here we report successful treatment of a case of severe ARDS with Veno-Venous ECMO. Case pre...

Perioperative Care of Patients on HFOV and ECMO in the NICU

High frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) is commonly applied to neonatal patients with respiratory failure to provide a lung protective strategy of ventilation. Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is applied to neonatal patients with either cardiac and/or respiratory failure when less invasive therapies are failing, or are producing harm. Patients receiving HFOV or ECLS sometimes require su...

Neonatal ECMO study of temperature (NEST): a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND Despite evidence to support the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in defined groups of newborn infants, rates of impairment among survivors remain high. Therapeutic hypothermia has been shown to provide neuroprotection in mature infants exposed to perinatal asphyxia. We hypothesized that therapeutic hypothermia during ECMO would reduce the proportion of infants with b...
